Fun Facts
Kodaikanal was developed in 1845 to escape the summer heat of the rest of Kerala, making it a hilly summer retreat. The ritual is followed by travellers to date. In fact, the name of the place literally translates to ‘a place to see in Summer’.
Kodaikanal has a solar observatory! Also housing a terrestrial telescope, travellers can visit every Friday to gorge on panoramic views of the different dams and rivers that make the town.
The Kodaikanal Lake is an artificial lake, known for its unusual star shape! Travellers can enjoy traversing through it with row or pedal boats on a breezy afternoon.
