Pink City in History

Built more than 250 years ago on the age-old principles of Indian architecture (Vastu Shastra and Shilpa Shastra), Jaipur is the first planned city of India!

When constructed, the city was meticulously divided into 9 rectangular chokris (sectors) implementing the grid system, their walls pieced together with seven fortified gates that still remain.

The terracotta pink so prevalent here has interesting stories tagging along, from grand gestures to the Prince of Wales to the mere abundance of rose pink paint at the moment!

Fun Facts

The famous pink-walled shopping markets of the Pink city were once the part of the king of Jaipur’s kingdom, and are thus in close proximity to the Hawa Mahal and City Palace.

The Raj Palace hotel in Jaipur is home to the world’s most expensive suite, costing an unbelievable (yet accurate) INR 48 lakh for a single night! That’s $67K on a good day, folks!
