8 reasons, why we couldn't get over Jaisalmer

"Bejeweled with golden sands
and the starry sky above,
Like a love-lorn lady,
Seems you have been waiting...
For us all..!"

What is it that brought us back in Jaisalmer? What is it that we wanted more of you to watch?

The ‘ Golden City’ as it has come to be known is a majestic place. A huge fort sits atop a hill in the centre of the city, overlooking the sun-kissed houses.
Sand dunes not far from the city are a tourist hotspot for camel safaris and jeep tours. There are so many great little spots we discovered and awesome things to do in Jaisalmer, the ‘Golden City’ of India.

These little things called us back in Jaisalmer, and 'No' to royalty would have harmed!

1) Sonar Quila and It's Vividness
Unlike many forts in India, the Jaisalmer Fort is free to enter.
This is because it is just like any other neighbourhood, except inside an epic, Historic Fort. Therefore there is no closing or opening time, no guards and a relaxed atmosphere inside. The museum inside The Fort, tells you more about the rulers and the royal family.

2) Living Fort of Jaisalmer
Normally a fort is teeming with tourists, guards, tickets and red tape but this feels much more like a community. We explored the entire fort looking inside the rustic gem shops, and the admiring the beautifully woven textiles and rugs.
Shopping didn’t seem like one of the most popular things to do in Jaisalmer but crafts and textiles are for sale throughout India and they were beautifully made in Jaisalmer.

3) Food Of the Fort

You won’t find it hard to end up at a cafe or restaurant on the edge of the fort with an epic view for dinner or sunset drinks. Try some amazing Rajasthani delicacies, watching the sun come down over the ‘Golden City’. Don't miss out on the Dal Baati Choorma, once you are there.

4) People of Jaisalmer
Each state in India varies so drastically in food, dress, and customs; Jaisalmer is no exception. The further into the desert I got, the darker and prettier their skin, the brighter their eyes, the more colorful the turbans, and more sequined the sari.

The women just keep layering on the gold and I couldn’t help but wear a couple jiggling anklets myself.

5) Kuldhara, Ghost Village
Kuldhara is an abandoned village in the Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan, India. Established around 13th century, it was once a prosperous village inhabited by Paliwal Brahmins. Now, that it is abandoned there are guards on the gates and particular timings to visit this place, (holds some conspiracy of being haunted too!) it could be your favourite sunset point for sure !

6) Gadisar Lake

Wake up before sunrise, for some color and nice vibes around the Gadi Sagar Lake. Temples sit out in the water, almost as if they were floating and the sound of traffic from the city is too far to break the serenity. Visiting Gadi Sagar Lake would be rated as one of the best things to do in Jaisalmer for sunrise in our opinion. Hanging out on the walls of the fort for sunrise could be epic also.

7) Haveli House
Haveli is essentially a mansion and when rich people build, they do it in style. Haveli’s are usually detailed exquisite exteriors and are a sight to behold. There are many Haveli’s to explore in Jaisalmer.

You will find Haveli’s throughout the city but if you are looking for them specifically, our favorite was the Patwaon-Ki-Haveli.

8) Well, for this one....you got to wait till tomorrow!

There are plenty of other Havelis’, temples and even villages. and point 8) Left unstated!
However, this blog talks about how you can spent your 3 days in Jaisalmer.
